The home is influenced by the barns, meeting houses, and hotels built in the area at the turn of the 19th century, as well as by the rugged surrounding terrain, creating a look that incorporates both strength and elegance. Challenged by a very steep site, the design of the home thoughtfully places programmatic elements, such as the garage and mechanical areas below upper living spaces, maximizing views of the landscape while minimizing the building footprint. The material palette for the home includes the use of heavy fir timbers, thick graduated slate, and natural edged novelty siding, selected purposefully to create a home that will age gracefully as a vacation destination for generations to come.
