This project involved the creation of a beautiful private back yard retreat in Boston’s densely populated Back Bay.

The owner’s desire to connect their 1st floor living space directly to the lower level rear patio required a new exterior stair, which the Back Bay Architectural Commission (BBAC) permitted. Meyer & Meyer identified unique conditions that strengthened support and ultimately led to the design being deemed appropriate by the BBAC with support from the Neighborhood Association of Back Bay (NABB). This site is also in the Groundwater Conservation Overlay District, so we worked closely with the Civil Engineers to coordinate the design of a large drywell into the rear yard.
