Lowell Housing Authority’s community redevelopment
plan called for the design of a new community center and satellite police station. The 18,000-square-foot center was created for the residents of a high-density housing project. In contrast to the urban areas which border parts of the site, these buildings are residential in character and scale. The design intent was to have the community center serve as a focal point for the community and to respond to the varied contextual conditions in a non-institutional manner. This award-winning redevelopment project includes a senior center and attached parking.
